Big Bummed Boot Camp Week 5

Wow, that week  was a complete loss. I exercised Monday only. At least I ran on that day. Then I got sick--really, really sick. The kind of sick that makes you not want to get out of bed for days on end.
Needless to say, I was celebrating Saturday when I finally got to move around again without worrying that my head would fall off. So, for all of those days when I wasn't exercising, just lying in bed bemoaning my fate, I made plans. Lots of plans.
First off, I decided to stick to a calorie counting diet. It worked for me before, I'll do it again. I thought about doing the Weight Watcher thing, but honestly, it seemed just like more work trying to figure out the whole points thing. I'm a simple person, I hate figuring things out. Calories are easy, I can do that.
Now, I will be a good girl and try to still eat more veggies and less carbs. I know my weaknesses, carbs adore me, they cling to my thighs.
Ooh, another thing. I got my running shoes. Aren't they spiffy.

You will be able to see them a mile away. I hope the pain in the side of my legs will go away now that I have these puppies.
Another exciting thing to mention. Hubby has started dismantling my bike. He is stripping it all down so it can be painted. I am leaning towards a peach color. Here is what my bike looks like right now. Isn't that pathetic looking.
I can't wait to see what the finished product will look like!
I am eager to work hard this next week and make up for my non-exercise icky week. Take care everyone, and get moving.

Big Bummed Boot Camp week 4

Okay, I admit it, I hit the wall this week. My legs were dying from bad shoes. I couldn't finish one of my runs. I didn't lose a pound. And I wanted to burst into tears.
So here I will evaluate everything, and see where I went wrong. First, the good:  I did exercise 4 days out of the week. Three of those days I did run. I wasn't able to do the full run on the last day because my legs were screaming in agony.
As far as eating, well that didn't go so well. I decided to not do low carb because it was making me a crabby wench and I  wasn't losing weight. I'm still trying to decide what I want to do. I was contemplating either weight watchers or basic watching my calories. No matter what, I need to do something because it is too easy to eat bad stuff when I don't have a plan.
New shoes will be here on Thursday, that should help with the leg pain. I have high arches and overpronate. My old running shoes no longer cut it. So I am really hoping to be able to run without the side shin pains after that.
This week isn't starting well either. I am sick so no exercising today. Will make a plan tonight about my eating. Expect a well defined goal by the next post  :D

Big-Bummed Boot Camp week 3

I admit, this week was a trial. I'm sick of any food that I'm allowed to eat. I'm tired of running, and I actually gained two pounds in the process. Go me!
I was able to do my running on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The running is getting easier, my lungs are getting stronger and my calf muscles aren't strung so tight that I feel their going to snap. I think the weight gain was just stupid water. But it is depressing to work so hard and see no results.
Another major struggle for me was eating. I went out to eat three times this week. Good grief, what a horrible thing to do to myself. I was very good, and ate my stupid, boring salads. I'm sorry, salads can be delicious, but I have had too many of them, and everything that makes the salads delicious involve carbs. Fail!
I also missed a weight training day because I spent the entire day driving to Eugene and back. No calories were burned sitting on my bum like that.
Goal for this week: take measurements. I'm hoping that there are changes going on with my body that aren't showing up on the scale. I also want to make it into the gym all five days. No slacking!

Big-Bummed Boot Camp week 2

That was a wild roller coaster of a week; there were a lot of ups and downs. Big, big, big up: I lost 6 lbs in one week. Okay, okay, I know most of it was water weight. But still, 6 lbs is 6lbs. I'm taking it.
The bad thing was I got sick Thursday night. So I didn't do my last run on Friday or Saturday. But the nasty cold is completely over and I was able to run again today.
So how did the running go for Monday and Wednesday? It was amazingly hideous. Seriously, I have no lung capacity. The first day I thought I was going to die. After lifting weights the next day, I wanted to die so that the overwhelming pain jabbing throughout my body would disappear. With my run on Wednesday, not only was I sucking air the whole time, but every muscle in my upper body was screaming for me to just go back to bed.
But, the first week is over. No more aching muscles, I ate really, really well, and the scale proved it. This week will be more of the same, but I am kicking it up a notch both in the running and the weight training. Any of you out there contemplating doing something to get moving. Go do it. You will appreciate it later. Not at first maybe, but definitely later.

Big-bummed Boot Camp Week 1

After a month of excess, I am ready to get moving. Last year was not my year for weight loss. Yesterday, when I entered in my weight in my fitday profile, I realized that I had actually gained 2 lbs from last year on the same date. BUGGER!
So, boot camp has commenced. I am going to do the couch to 5k program. For those of you unfamiliar with that program, you can find it HERE. You basically go from not running to running a 5k (Which is just over 3 miles) within 9 weeks. So, on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I will be sucking in air, trying to run. On Tuesday-Thursdays, I will do cardio and weight training. Meanwhile, I will be following a lower-carb-but-not-completely-low-carb diet.
If I stick to this boot camp for the next 9 weeks.Supposedly, I will have lost about 20 lbs and should be able to run a 5k race.
Meanwhile, Hubby is going to take my bike apart, clean it really nice, and give it a new, spiffy paint job.  If all goes well, I will post a picture in March of  the Big-Bummed Girl and her Bike, both looking significantly better!
To aid me with this goal, I will post weekly on how things are going. I will be completely honest, and tell you if I have cheated on my diet or stayed in bed instead of running. Anyone who wants to join in the program, let me know. It always rocks to have someone else suffering through the same misery.
